 Networking your Wholehogs

Networking Consoles
There are a couple of reasons why you might want to network your consoles:
  1.  To allow multiple programmers to create one show together.
  2.  To go wireless and make your Hog3PC on your laptop as a RFU (Remote Focus Unit)

DO NOT network the consoles thinking that this will provide you with a tracking backup system.  That is not what it was designed to do.  If you want a backup console, follow my MIDI SLAVING GUIDE.

There are an endless number of network configurations that you can choose to set up your console system. There are 2 things that are global for all of these tutorials.  These things will also help you figure out which configuration is best for you.

  1.  Wholehog networking works off of a server/client relationship.  There can be only one server console, but you can have as many client consoles as you like.  The server console "owns" the show.  The showfile resides on the server console's hard drive and the client consoles log in to this showfile.   This means that if the server console goes offline, then the client console(s) will go offline as well.

   2.  The instructions listed below are specific to software version 3.0 or greater.  If you are using older software (version 2.6 or older), the network window options will not match up.

Remember, there are a million ways to set this up- once you understand the basics, you can get as fancy as you want.

I am seperating the 5 tutorials into 2 sections- wired and wireless.  There are multiple configurations in both sections, so check my notes to see which one might work for you.

Wired Configurations:

Notes:
Enabling your console as a DHCP Server

This means your server console will handle the distribution of TCP/IP network settings.
Network Configurations using a Router

Suitable for any networking console (Wholehog3, Roadhog Full Boar, Hog iPC and Hog3PC)  to act as the server.
Manually Configuring Your Wholehog Network

Useful for any networking console.

Wireless Configurations:
Use these configurations when you want to set your laptop as a remote focus unit.

Notes:
Connecting Hog3PC with a Wireless Access Point

Use this when you want to setup you TCP/IP settings manually, or if you want to set your server console as a DHCP server.
Connecting Hog3PC with a Wireless Router

These instructions allow your router to assign TCP/IP settings to server and client consoles
